They are both a form of passive transport, meaning that no cellular energy is required for the processes to take place.
They both involve the movement of materials from an area of high concentration to an area of low concentration.
The main difference is one of definition. When WATER is diffusing from one place to another, like across a membrane, the process is called OSMOSIS. The movement of any other substance is just called DIFFUSION.
