The borders of current African countries were negotiated not among the Africans, but among their imperial powers: and those powers typically did not take into account the ethic, religious and linguistic divisions. This mans that today the countries often have many minorities and that many ethnic groups are split among many countries: this is the reason for the conflicts (conflicts are often ethnic in their character)
