In the school election. James ran against Andrew for Secretary. James received 75% of the votes. If 240 students voted, how many votes did James receive?

So, 75% is the same as 3/4 right? The best way to do this would be to first find 1/4.

240/4 = 60

Now you know that 1/4 equals 60.

but.... you have 3/4

60 x 3 = 180

180 kids voted for James.
