What is a metaphor and why is it used

A metaphor is a figure of speech, like personification. Metaphors are harder to use because you have to use the word IS in a metaphor. For example, if you were describing a giant in a story, you could say:

He IS a mountain.

You can also sometimes say have, or was.

Its used to compare something in a detailed way

Does that help? :)
