y=-2x+8

y=x-1

Solve y=-2x+8 for y

Substitute -2x+8 for y in y =x-1

y=x-1

-2x+8=x-1

Add -x to both sides

-2x+8+-x=x-1+-x

-3x+8=1

Add -8 to both sides

-3x+8+-8=1+-8

-3x=-9

Divide both sides by -3

-3x/-3=-9/-3

x=3

Substitute 3 for x in y =-2x+8

y=-2x+8

y=(-2)(3)+8

Simplify both sides of the equation

y=2

Answer : y=2 and x=3
