The United States entered because of the Zimmerman Telegram to Mexico.
The Telegram said that if Germany gave Mexico weapons to fight the United States to make them stay out of the war, Germany would give them back the South West part of the United States. This included Utah, New Mexico, Nevada, Colorado, Texas, and Califorina.
