Why did the Mormons have to keep moving from one place to another ?

They kept moving from place to place to find a place where they can settle down. They were persecuted for their faith and some of their actions especially their speeches that caused them to be expelled in Missouri. They eventually settled in Salt Lake City.

Why did the Mormons have to keep moving from one place to another ?
