what is the difference, in terms of chromosomes,between a cell that is diploid and a cell that is haploid?

A diploid cell has two sets of chromosomes. One set of chromosomes is donated by each parent.

A haploid cell only has one set of chromosome. It is called a gamete and is produced in meiosis.
