Where did cats come from

Since cats were venerated in ancient Egypt, they were commonly believed to have been domesticated there, but there may have been instances of domestication as early as the Neolithic from around 9,500 years ago (7,500 BCE).

If you are talking about the name:
The name originated from the Germanic language of cat.
Then, since English is a mixture of many languages the word cat was chosen from the many different languages of calling "cat".

If you are talking about the ancestor:
Cats are traced back to Wild cats in the Near Eastern territory of Israel, Saudi Arabia and etc
