4x+ 16 \\ \\ GCF = 4 \\ \\ 4( (4x)/(4) + (16)/(4) ) \\ \\ 4(x + 4) \\ \\

The final result is: 4(x + 4).

--------

-6y + 18 \\ \\ GCF = 6 \\ \\ 6( (6y)/(6) - (18)/(6) ) \\ \\ -6(y - 3) \\ \\

The final result is: -6(y - 3).

When we factor, we bring the term into its simplest form.

4x + 16 = 4(x + 4)
To check:
4x + 4*4 = 4x + 16

-6y + 18 = -6(y - 3)
To check:
-6y + (-6)(-3) = -6y + 18
