Why did French colonies have trouble attracting new French colonists?

The correct answer here is B - french colonies had trouble attracting new french colonists because those who might have otherwise been interested in starting a new life overseas were put off by the hard work involved in land clearing, and also feared the Native Americans. Due to these factors, amongst others, the French colonies had a very slow growth rate.
