Because the overwhelming portion of human DNA between individuals is identical, it is not required to use the entire genome in genetic fingerprinting. By not focusing on the DNA segments that are identical between individuals, the genetic fingerprinting process can better hone in on that portion of DNA between individuals that is unique.
