The elizabethan theatre how was the public notified about performances

Generally, the performances always began at three in the afternoon due to the fact that this was the brightest time of day making it easier to see the play and the stage. There were flags that were flown to on the tops of the buildings, this indicated the genre of the play. White often meant comedy, black was tragedy and red was history.
