You can add 2 to both sides, first, to get:

√(2x+1) = 4

Then, square both sides:

( √(2x+1) )^2 = 4^2

2x+1 = 16

Subtract 1:

2x = 15

Solve for x:

x = (15)/(2)

And, so that's your answer: x = 15/2
