The trick here is not to take the probability as 12/18 = 2/3

The probability is 12/30 because he has thrown the coin a total of 30 times and it has landed on heads 12 of those 30 times.

Divide the top and bottom by 6 which is the highest common factor.
12/30 = 2/5
