What happens once intercellular signals reach the inside of a cell using some type of receptor?

It is not B. So I am guessing it is C.

Cells have proteins called receptors that bind to signalingmolecules and initiate a physiological response. ... Dopaminereceptors bind dopamine, insulin receptors bind insulin, nerve growth factor receptors bind nerve growth factor, and so on.
