A rectangle has a perimeter of 48m. The width is 2m less than the length. Using an equation find the dimensions.

Ok so we know that the total perimeter of the rectangle is 48m.

We also know that to get the perimeter, it is the sum of two lengths and two widths.

Therefore 2L + 2W = 48

However, we also know that the width is 2m less than the length, so the above equation can be rewritten as:
2L + 2(L-2) = 48

We can simplify this to make it
4L - 4 = 48
So 4L = 52
Hence L = 13.

We know that the width is 13-2, so the width is 11.

So the length is 13m and the width is 11m
