In 1938 the United States Congress passed the Federal Food, Drug, and Cosmetic Act, generally referred to as FFDCA, FDCA, or FD&C, in order to give someone authority to the United States Food and Drug Administration, often referred to as the FDA. They were able to oversee the safety of any products that were related to food, drugs, or cosmetics.
