Actually It was Edwin Hubble who found and took images of galaxies inorder to study its whole spectrum, hence hubble found Red shifts of galaxies and also the far distant galaxies which was showing higher and higher red shifts and then supernovas was also studied by him, which showed the evidence of universe accelerating along with expansion, which was due to dark energy
