"In Memoriam A H H" is a requiem for the poet's beloved friend Arthur Henry Hallam, who died of a cerebral haemorrhage in Vienna in 1833. In the poem, which contains Tennyson's best lyrical work, the speaker realizes that the past is not really the past because his friends spirit lives on in the present.
