Fungi, include many species, forming together one of the five kingdoms of life. Although long considered as algae, and therefore plants, they are distinguished from the plant kingdom by many features, including the absence of chloroplasts, making them heterotrophic beings for carbon. According to the phylogenetic classification, they are closer to the animals, forming with them most of the super-rule of opistochontes. All derive from an aquatic eukaryotic ancestor able to move with a flagellum.
