It was José Bernardo Maximiliano Gutiérrez de Lara who was sent by father Hidalgo to recruit people and soldiers along the Rio Grande during the Mexican War of Independence which consisted of a series of revolts that were caused by the turmoil and the increasing political instability in both Spain and Mexico.
