Thermal energy is created when a firefighter slides down a pole. Where does this energy come from?

It comes from the kinetic energy of the fireman due to his motion & the gravitational potential energy due to his raised position above the pole. As he slides down the pole, the KE and GPE are converted into heat energy and sometimes sound energy.
