CH3    has  a  single  electron  in  the p   orbital  .  this  is  because CH3  has  3  equivalent c-h  bond  and  one one  non  equivalent  p bond.  which  bears  a  single  electron.   The  radical  has  one  unpaired  electron  which  is one  fewer  than  required  for  complete  valence  shell
