Thomas J. “Stonewall” Jackson General Jackson died on May 10, 1863 as a result of pneumonia on week after he was accidentally shot by his own men during the Battle of Chancellorsville. After nightfall during the battle, when the active fighting had stopped, General Jackson performed some reconnaissance in preparation for more fighting in the morning. As he returned to camp, his own men opened fire, hitting him 3 times.
