True or false? according to knapp's theory, small talk is a meaningless pastime engaged in at initial stages of relationships.

This theory is somewhat valid in that small talk is engaged at the start of a relationship, but it is not meaningless. Learning what the other person likes to engage conversation in even seemingly meaningless topics will help the first person to analyze what the other finds important.
