Prior to ________, texas governors were elected to two-year terms, with most being elected to a maximum of two consecutive two-year terms. since then, governors have been able to get elected to unlimited four-year terms.

Between the end of the civil war and 1876 the governor of Texas served 4 years. After 1876 it was changed to two years. In 1972 it was once more changed to four years. So the best answer is most likey 1972.
