As a citizen of the United States in 1823, how could the Monroe Doctrine provide you with a sense of optimism regarding your country’s position in the world?

The doctrine showed that the country was confident enough in itself to posit that it would defend itself against any attempts at encroachment by European nations. This was an example of how the country had grown and become more powerful in the years immediately prior to the doctrine and was now competing with the rest of the most powerful nations for influence in geopolitics.
