"Energy can be powered" would be the independent clause. There is no subordinate clause. Your answer should be one.

In the group of words above, there is one independent clause and there isn't any subordinate clauses. Independent clauses are a group of words that can stand alone as a sentence: They have a subject and a verb and represent a complete thought.

In the sentence in question, the NP "energy" functions as the subject of the sentence and the VP "can be gathered" functions as the predicate.
