Exodusters was a name given to African Americans who migrated from states along the Mississippi River to Kansas in the late-nineteenth century, as part of the Exoduster Movement or Exodus of 1879. It was the first general migration of blacks following the Civil War.

Exodusters was a title which was given to those African Americans who emigrated in the later phase of the 19th century from states adjacent the Mississippi River to Kansas. Their migration was a part of the Exodus of 1879. Following the Civil War, the Exodus of 1879 was the first extensive migration of black community. Some of the prominent figures such as Henry Adams of Louisiana and Benjamin Singleton of Tennessee gave organizational support to this movement.
