The desire for a constitutional monarchy was one cause of the Decembrist revolt.

The Decembrist revolt occured in Imperial Russia on 26 December 1825 as a protest against Tsar Nicholas I's assumption of the throne after his elder brother Constantine removed himself from the line of succession.

In fact, during the reign of Tsar Alexander I, some members of the high aristocracy aimed to establish constitutional monarchy and abolish serfdom.
