Isotonic solution is the solution in which the concentration of a solute is the same inside and outside of the cell. The concentration of solute is at equilibrium inside and outside of the semi- permeable membrane of the cell. The shape of the cell will remain unchanged as neither water nor solute will come out or enter the cell.
