The answer is unclear standards. This graphic rating scale appears to be objective, but would perhaps effect in unfair appraisals since the traits and degrees of excellence are vague. For instance, different supervisors would probably define good performance as different while fair performance would be treated unalike too and so on differently. The same is true of traits such as quality of work or originality.
