Why did the entertainment industry grow significantly after World War I? People wanted an escape in difficult economic times, and entertainment had previously been unavailable. Soldiers returned home and wanted to be entertained, and the audience for music and “talkies” increased. Many popular entertainers had been war heroes, and people were willing to pay a lot of money to hear and see them. People sought easy and inexpensive ways of escaping unhappy memories of recent events.
