Mirikitani draws parallels between the Vietnam War and her own experiences in World War II, in order to deal with the universal theme of suffering in war. In her work she demonstrated all the horror of the war, pointing out that it does not matter at which period of time or at which place in the world the war take place, it is have always been the most horrible event in people's life.
