How can music be an object of memory? what are some of the processes that musicologists and performers use to reconstruct "broken" musical traditions?

Music can be an object of memory because sometimes something important might be happening when you hear a song and the next time you hear that same song it brings back that memory.

Sorry, I don't know how to answer the second question.
