Research indicates that suicides by people with schizophrenia more often reflect feelings of demoralization, rather than delusions or hallucinations.
The risk factors in the people with schizophrenia include hopelesseness, lower quality of life, traumatic events, depressive symptoms and lifetime suicidal thinking. In general, demoralization defined as persistent inability to cope, it also involves the challenge to one's sense of meaning or purpose.
