During childbirth, a woman is given an epidural anesthetic to relieve the pain. This is an example of REGIONAL anesthesia. This anesthesia is given during vaginal child birth, cesarean section and labor. It is the most preferred method to relieve pain during labor. The anesthesia is injected into the epidural space.
