fats and steroids are both lipids and hydrophobic. fats store energy for molecules. steroids are messengers around the cell membrane.

Differences between fats and steroids:

Fats are used as the storage source of the energy and can be hydrolyzed or broken down in the digestive process. Sterols are the precursors of the hormones and involved in cell signalling and cell - cell communication.
