For example, Oil painting, artist tend to use canvas because it is a better platform to work on. Most use 10 steps to complete there painting.

Step 2: Get in or find a safe and quiet to sit and paint
Step 3: Start by sketching what you plan to paint
Step 4: Set up goals you wish to achieve in the process of sketching and painting.
Step 5: Paint directly
Step 6; Underpainting- the first coat
Step 7: Correct the mistakes you made so far
Step 8: Apply the oil paints in layers
Step 9: Decide ending point
Step 10: Take care of your finished piece
That is just one example on the steps they take every type of art skill takes different steps. Regular painting will differ from oil painting. Drawing differs from sketching. The steps change with what you do.
