The Medici family played an important role in the Renaissance because its members were great patrons of academics, poets and artists, such as the philosophers Marsilio Ficino and Pico della Mirandola, the poets Pulci and Poliziano and great artists like Botticelli, Ghirlandaio and Leonardo da Vinci.
