Is mass conserved when 50 g of sugar undergoes a physical change?

yes, mass never changes. No exceptions.

Actually, mass can change, but it cannot be created nor destroyed, so this means that if sugar goes into a physical change, mass CAN be broken off but CANNOT be destroyed, so your answer is yes mass is conserved.
