Why do historians read diaries and letters from the past?

That is because that person might tell a certain part of time that is a big part of are history and that person might tell us a part that we don't even know about that could really put pieces together about why did this happen also it will tell us a life story about the person what job, his or her family, and other things that will help put pieces together. P.S Don't you think this should be history?
