The indigenous Persion Nationalist movement was protesting against the British empire and Russia. It began in the 19th century. This was partially in response to colonialism and imperialism, though they had a bitter history with Russia. In fact, two Russo- Persian wars were fought. They were over disagreements about what territories belonged to who, and spanned from 1804-1813 and 1826-1828.
