Descriptive research. Descriptive research describes the current research question, does not require the researcher to manipulate any of the experimental variables, and does not offer an explanation as to why something happened in an experiment. In contrast, experimental research manipulates a variable (or variables) in order to investigate the effect on some result, and provides conclusions about why that effect happened.
