At the beginning of the movie, Abby’s interaction with John Proctor behind the house is kind and it is noticeable that they feel attracted to each other. He also laughs at her mischief of accusing innocent people as if he would not be aware of the impending danger that the false accusations could represent to him. However, when John meets Abby in the woods, he is remarkably angry due to the scope that Abby’s accusations have reached. He rejects her as she tries to seduce him and threatens Abby to stop the accusations. At the end of the scene, John is evidently worried at the possibility of having his wife accused of witchcraft by Abby, as an act of revenge against John.
