The correct answer is D) Menelik.

The African leader that opened Ethiopia to Western thought and practices was Menelik.

Menelik II (1844-1913) was the king of Shewa and became emperor of the African nation of Ethiopia in 1889 until his death. He is known for repelling successfully the Italian invasion in the battle of Badwa. But one of his most important achievements was to modernize Ethiopia by adopting Western ideas and open its country to European influences.
