Adolph Quetelet believed there was a direct correlation between social factors and property and violent crime. Included among those factors are the age of the perpetrator as well as their gender, their environment, poverty level, level of education and their use of alcohol. Many of his contemporaries disagreed with his belief because they felt the idea of social factors removed the idea of freedom of choice.
