In "the jilting of Granny Weatherall" the main character, Granny is lying in bed sick. Waiting to be attended by Doctor Harry. As the story develops, more characters, which end up to be his children and relatives appear as she ultimately notices she is dying. Even the priest has come to the household.

She remembers with bitterness the day of her wedding and the reader comes to understand that the outcome was not good. She constantly remembers George, who apparently was the cause of the bitterness she had. Even though many years have passed since that event, many feelings still remain up until the very last day of her life.
