Hammurabi was most famous for The Code of Hammurabi. The most complete and perfect extant of Babylonian laws, developed during the reign of Hammurabi. It consists of his legal decisions that were collected toward the end of his reign and inscribed on a diorite stela set up in Babylon’s temple of Marduk There were 282 case laws that included economic provisions, family law, criminal law and civil law. Penalties varied according to the status of the offenders and the circumstances of the offenses. The laws varied from offender to offender because of how specific the laws were. The laws would go as far as where the offender lives and what job the offender has or whom the offender may know to determine proper punishment.
